Life Lessons: The Client Who Bounced Back Against All Odds (and Calls Me Her Second Mom)
The Myth of Easy Growth: The Viral Crash
The path of entrepreneurship is brutal. A few years ago, I mentored an amazing client who launched a small artisanal soup company in Quebec. Her little SME faced an involuntary disaster: a public figure, with the best intentions, shared a photo of her product on Instagram.
The result was crushing: my client was overwhelmed with excessive orders she wasn't ready for, and even got hit with administrative fines. Completely discouraged, she closed her doors.
The Art of Staying in the Picture and the First Opportunity
I have a fiercely protective side for clients I care about. Even when she wasn't bringing in any "water to the mill" (revenue) for me, I stayed in her orbit. My firm is built on audacity and systems that connect.
The Lifeline: I offered her an opportunity: I had another client in event planning (based in Quebec) who was organizing an event in British Columbia and needed catering. My client accepted, and it was her first step towards the West.
The Stroke of Genius: The "Thank You" Strategy
She had a brilliant idea that reminded me resilience is her biggest strength. Once she was established in B.C., she reached out to the public figure's team.
She didn't ask for help. She offered them her famous soup as a sincere thank you. She explained that the viral disaster had been a crucial lesson and if they liked the soup, they shouldn't hesitate to contact her. I loved her audacity.
The Grand Pivot: From Failure to Prosperity
The catering requests kept coming in, traveling between Quebec and B.C., which became costly. Her audacity reached a new level: in 2020-2021, with zero money and not speaking English, she decided to move to British Columbia. Her former employer helped her financially make the leap.
Today, she has a beautiful small business established in Western Canada and employs about thirty people. Her success isn't due to luck; it's due to her audacity, her humanity, and the fact that she got back up against all odds.
My Greatest Success: Human Wealth
When I wrote to her this week to tell her she was still one of the people who inspired me (and to share the broad strokes of her story here), she made a moving confession: she will be a single mother by choice and has always considered me her second mother.
My success isn't about building an empire. It's about this type of human connection and the pride of seeing a client transform her trials into prosperity. It is proof that EEAT is the only strategy that matters: human experience is irreplaceable.
